Despite learning that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Bobby have been friends since back in the days when Bill trolled the Jets sideline as Parcells’ underling and Bobby was guiding the Mets over at Shea, Bobby stayed pretty quiet this Sunday without making an appearance on the Patriots sideline.
All that came across the wires as news from the golf resort of Cap Cana was Tim Wakefield not surprising anyone by saying, “I have a strong desire to pitch one more year for the Red Sox.” Also Bobby tried sloughing off the notion that he was in the Dominican to rope Papi back in, claiming his mission was to play golf and support Ortiz’s charity.
As far as the shot we showed yesterday with Valentine, Papi and Bill Russell, he claimed sitting with Russell (and apparently drinking Presidente beer) was a fortuitous meeting, not one preplanned. “Wow. That was a bonus,” Valentine said after chatting with the Celtics icon. “Greatest winner ever.”
Thankfully most people let Johnny Damon run his mouth and not pay much attention to what he actually said. That real is the best way to deal with his opinions. I’ve had a tough enough time following his train of though ever since his collision with Damian Jackson. Let’s hope there’s something real going on tomorrow.
